Also I got distracted while listening to "Shades of Grey" trying to hear the thorns, and it reminded me of another thing that happened a while back:

Rhythmbox: There's a drumming noise inside my head that starts when you're around
I swear that you could hear it, it makes such an almighty sound
There's a drumming noise inside my head that throws me to the ground--

Me: Wait, hang on. That sounded *different*. That "throws" right there, like it was distinctly throwing and not freezing. Try that again. *rewinds*

Rhythmbox: There's a drumming noise inside my head that starts when you're around
I swear that you could hear it, it makes such an almighty sound
There's a drumming noise inside my head that throws me to the ground--

Me: *rewinds*

Rhythmbox: --it makes such an almighty sound
There's a drumming noise inside my head that throws me to the ground--

Me: *rewinds*

Rhythmbox: --that froze-- --that froze-- --that froze--

Me: Huh. I bet it's because the rest of the verse is in present tense.

True, there is some history of huge exogenous discoveries of precious metals causing monetary disruption, but the important thing to realize is that that was back when precious metals were money. Now bringing back a gajillion tons of gold from outer space would not increase the money supply, because the money supply is not linked to gold. It would just decrease the price of gold. It would be super disruptive to gold miners, sure! The rest of us would be fine.

I keep catching myself trying to use "oversee" to mean the visual equivalent of "overhear", before remembering that that is not what "oversee" means.

Meanwhile, "overlook" means something completely different from "oversee", and is *also* not analogous to "overhear".

English is a bullshit language, but then AFAIK so is every other language except *maybe* Lojban.
