I did notice that as an odd factor. My immediate attempt to rationalize the link was too invoke that mythical balm of would-be bank robbers everywhere: bank insurance, but IDK how valid that actual is. Probably they were just as good at spin as they were at scheming?

(Also: "He was not an Argentine national and thus was eligible to have his sentence cut in half, provided he left the country and never came back." does not seem to be a legal loophole as such; it's a way of kicking assholes out of the country. It's not necessarily a *good law* but it's clearly serving it's purpose of keeping random foreign bankrobbers out of Argentina?)
