[cw: what it says on the tin]
I had an appointment at an obscure little pharmacy in the city for January 11th (all of the less-obscure pharmacies were booked up until March: I had to hear about this one through NextDoor), but this morning I got a notice from the Region of Waterloo government that they'd opened an additional clinic. I checked it out, and the new clinic still had one (1) slot open for today, at 11:20 AM.
It was about 10:30 AM when I saw this.
Fortunately Dad was awake (albeit not out of bed), and agreed to help me run out there.
---
The staff at this clinic have noticeably upped their PPE game: not a surgical mask to be seen. Everyone was wearing KN95s + face shields, except for one guy who appeared to be wearing one of those trifold flatpack N95s (and a face shield). I do hope the KN95s were from reputable brands, for their sakes: I hear there's a lot of junk in that market.
(They weren't picky about the face coverings of patients, though: no hesitation while they decide how to respond to an elastomeric, no making me loop a surgical mask over my cheek filters so that it hangs down and covers the (taped over with cloth) valve.)
The booking notice said to expect it to take an hour, but I was in and out in under 15 minutes: there were no lines, and they'd cut the post-vaccine waiting period to 5 minutes (perhaps because I'd tolerated the other two doses well). They had both major brands available: they were going to give me Pfizer because I'm under 30 and it probably has very slightly less risk of causing heart problems in youth, but I requested Moderna and after a bit of consultation amongst themselves they let me have it.
---
I'd better go tell the obscure pharmacy that they can give my slot to someone else.
