The symbol of change

So guess who lives in a Delta hotspot.
---
In some ways, that title is arguably not actually that fitting. Things are staying pretty much the same, after all.
...the trouble is, by all rights they should be getting better. We're having to run this hard *just to stay in one place*.
For much of the pandemic, Waterloo Region was at or below the Ontarian provincial average. Our third-wave peak was far lower than the Ontarian one.
Except that Ontario-as-a-whole then proceeded to spend the next two months having their average new caseloads plummet, while *we* mostly just hovered, taking one step forward and one step back. We're a *bit* lower than our third-wave peak now, but still distinctly wintry figures.
We've gone from being half the provincial average to five times the provincial average. Last I heard, we were now the COVID-19 capital of Ontario.
---
My parents elected to cancel their next delivery-driving shift, and stop easing back into participating in shopping. I will remain Chief Supply-Fetcher: I no longer believe that my *biological* immune system is the best in the household, but my *prosthetic* immune system very much is and that more than makes up for it.
Meanwhile, my brother's workplace *has* forged ahead with their reopening plans (patio, takeout, delivery), and he's working more or less full-time now. Here's hoping he gets away with that.
---
I always strongly suspected that they weren't *actually* going to have us wait four months between doses, that they were merely *reserving the right* to take that long. And indeed, tomorrow I'll be eligible for a second dose.
Who knows how long it will take to actually get it in me, though: vaccine lines are still out the door. Dad managed to snag a short-notice one way out in Stratford (he was particularly high priority because of having had mere AstraZeneca: he opted for Moderna for his second); Mom managed to get an appointment three and a half weeks out (now one and a half).
