1. How is your year going so far?
I got a respirator and it's so good. (Small update: the filters only fell off mid-task one time each, hasn't happened since. I think I have them screwed on properly now.)
I got 100% on each of my first two (out of five) writing assignments for the final course of my diploma.
Other than that, basically just trudging along, slowly progressing towards the better life in the distance.
2. Have you gotten vaccinated yet? If not, when do you think it's likely to happen?
Hahaha no. The US is vaccinating all its own people first, the EU is *considering* vaccinating all its own people first, and guess what, those are the only two places with Canada-approved vaccine factories. I hear Calgary is gonna build one but it's gonna take like a year, so basically it'll only be good for boosters/updates and for the future mRNA vaccines that get invented.
They're thinking that...wait, hang on, it's dawning on me that if my life plans progress at the most likely rate, I'm going to lose essential-worker status *right* around the time they start vaccinating essential workers. Maybe I'll get vaccinated early in Phase 2, in March or April when I haven't quit yet; maybe I'll only be able to find part-time accounting work and will continue working fast-food to fill the hours gap; maybe I'll keep one shift a week *in order to* retain essential-worker status for a month or three until that status has served its purpose; or maybe...
...the thing is, a consistently-worn P100 grants *more* protection than even an mRNA vaccine, doesn't it. I've obtained a hardware patch for the security hole, so maybe I shouldn't be too concerned with how long it takes to get a wetware patch. Maybe I *should* be low in the triage list: judging from the amount of dehydration I suffered from 14 hours/week in a respirator (turns out it filters out water vapor too), 40 hours/week *would* probably be pretty awful, but it would let vaccines go to the people who need them most and thereby stamp out plague more effectively.
We'll see. I'm not gonna turn down a vaccine that's offered to me, but I might not contort my life around encouraging them to offer it to me as early as possible.
3. Are you bored or are you busy these days?
Who can be bored with so many swords hanging over their head? I got a lot of work to do, taking them carefully down.
In particular, I really desperately want a clean, well-stocked house in good repair, which might sound deceptively simple but actually breaks down into about one zillion sub-goals requiring several years to complete.
4. Is this pandemic good or bad for your finances?
Extremely good, thanks to the massive quantities of welfare involved. I'm still working on the annual finance report for 2020, but I suspect we're in the black this year, for the first time in...I don't even know how long, I started making these reports for 2016 and every annual report I've made has shown a net loss.
5. What are you missing most these days?
Parents with spoons. The "clean" part of "clean, well-stocked house in good repair", at least, could be a lot further along if I had more help from housemates. Mom's still doing a *bit*, and I suspect that if I pick up the floor I can convince Dad to vacuum it (maybe we can even flip over the couches and vacuum underneath! haven't done that in *years*, and last time I was vacuuming I tried and wasn't able to flip over even the smallest one single-handedly!), but it's still frustrating.
(Maybe some of it's cabin fever and will improve after they get vaccinated. A cause for hope, there.)
