I was lurking on a forum and I saw someone mention they'd recently been in an argument over whether to cure asexuality, in which they took the position that asexuals were missing out on a big and fundamental part of human experience and that was something worth fixing.

I wasn't exactly going to make an account just to try to restart that argument, but I did look at that and think that those were awfully bold words from someone missing out on so much fundamental experience themself.

'I bet your tiredness is always hollow, isn't it?' I thought. 'Always incomplete, never the way it should be. You've never known that longing, or felt the hum of power in the words. You might *think* you know the contentment of drifting off to sleep, and the satisfaction of waking well-rested, but do you *really*? The blue you see is not the same as the purple I see, and just because you've also seen red doesn't mean you can comprehend purple's beauty.'

---

I think I'm broadly in favour of giving people more control over their sexuality, access to more ways of being they can visit or settle down in. But it's important to bear in mind that nothing is one-size-fits-all, and not everyone will want to move in *your* direction.

In the Glorious Transhumanist Future, if you're looking to do some psychonautics, try visiting me for a while. You might find you like it here. I certainly do.

... now do I respond to this with vague melancholy noises about the finiteness of human experiences (which is something I get, like, a lot), or reminiscence about the how the last time I heard "Asexual's are missing out on a fundamental part of the human experience" it was followed up with "And I assume they fill that void by torturing cats". That's not an exact quote but "torturing cats" was the example given.

(Also "You might *think* you know the contentment of drifting off to sleep, and the satisfaction of waking well-rested, but do you *really*? ", Laughs bitterly in insomnia)
