Just *imagining* going to a rave makes me want to curl in a ball and cry, what even *are* allistics
---
I'm glad music nerds exist, they're enjoying themselves and producing valuable additions to mindspace and all that, but I don't expect I'll be remotely able to [keep all these fine distinctions of sub-genres straight] for the foreseeable future, if ever.
---
I'd heard *of* Kurt Cobain and Nirvana before a fair bit, but I cannot name a single song of theirs I have heard. I wonder which songs I've heard, if any, were secretly by Nirvana. Maybe I should go listen to their greatest hits and see if any sound familiar.
*heads off to Youtube, armed with list*

Eh, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" maybe seems *vaguely* familiar (the song, I mean: I've certainly heard the name). Same with "Dumb" and "All Apologies", to a lesser extent. I feel like I may have heard "Lithium" and "Rape Me" used in the backgrounds of movies once or twice.
Huh. Is that it? People *talk* about their music, but never *play* it?

"Music" includes sounds wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats.

Date: 2022-04-07 02:18 pm (UTC)(I wouldn't know, though, I've been to like three live shows in my life and none of them were remotely raves. I think I would *like* to see more live music, but I'm missing some social technology to make that happen? IDK. I think bandcamp has city-specific tags? Maybe I could crawl the [my city] tag and presumably bands with that tag occasionally do live shows in this goatforsaken outpost of civilization (which is very pleasant in many ways but like. Being a thousand kilometers of desert from the next major city does not make for many international visitors, even from what few bands I like for whom international touring is a sensible thing to do)

Date: 2022-04-07 02:54 pm (UTC)Several towns around here have little outdoor concert halls and have local or local-ish bands play there in the summer, usually weekly. I think the halls vary between "small fee", "pay-what-you-want", and "free". I'm usually working through the concerts of the closest one, but back when I wasn't I sometimes attended. They always have the amplifiers turned up way too high, but if I stand† way at the back it works out.
†Some people bring folding chairs or picnic blankets, but I haven't bothered.
