The U.S. government's ottawaamcits newsletter is kind of darkly amusing.

They keep on assuring me that I still have the right to return home, and like, dude, I *am* home, fuck you.

"given the increasing number of cases in Canada, the risk to those residing in Canada is high" what, like I'd be safer in the *States*, of all places?

Cultural translation note, since it occurs to me that most of you likely wouldn't have the context to catch the connotation there:

Americans, at least in my experience, do not call their own country "the States". *Canadians* call it "the States". As such, I call America "the States" when I wish to distance myself from it and emphasise my Canadianness instead.

I've heard other Americans call it "the States" occasionally, but not enough to know if there's any interesting connotations to doing so. It's definitely not very common here.
