[mild cw: food, Christmas, poverty]
To avoid the surge pricing at the Chinese buffet, we had Christmas Eve dinner at 1 PM on the 23rd. About as tasty and almost as celebratory as an actual Christmas Eve dinner, at two-thirds the price.
(Usually when I say "celebrating holidays on the actual day is for rich people", I'm referring to observances that were postponed or preponed* because somebody was scheduled to work that day and didn't want to take the paycheque hit of arranging to have the day off. But this seems like a good example too.)

*This is actually a word in Indian English! It's a great idea and we should adopt it in more dialects.
