[fairly mild cw: war]
Is it just me, or are a lot fewer people wearing remembrance poppies this year?
I don't know why that would be. The obvious thing that's changed is Ukraine, but I would have thought that war being on people's minds more would make them *more* likely to wear poppies rather than less.
I tried setting a search engine to "site:cbc.ca" and "within the past month" and searched for articles regarding remembrance poppies, but the only change they're talking about is that poppy pins made in 2022 onward are now biodegradable, so you don't have to worry as much about littering if they fall off your coat. Which, again, if anything seems like it would make people more likely to wear them rather than less.

I did not arrange my schedule correctly on Remembrance Day for 11 AM proper, but I suppose 11:11 is still an appropriately symbolic time for a minute of reflection.
