I just mentioned it because if you're growing inside you're not going to get critters or temperature issues, unless your pets find the plants tasty.

It's essentially a kratky method jar with a pump and timer/lights. While they do sell a lot of stuff and it is a bit pricey, once you get the cages you can buy your own grow media/seeds/fertilizer and they do work -- you just have to make sure the plant is correctly sized for the model, like a dwarf variety.

I have a hard time remembering fertilizer so I've finally been successful growing stuff with it. There's a reason why I prefer cats to houseplants -- cats won't let you forget to feed them.
