Two 2020 lifehacks

[arguably cw: illness]
Mom told me a few weeks ago that in the mid-20th century many women would put on lots of hand moisturiser before bed, then put gloves on over the top so it wouldn't rub off on the bedsheets. I expressed interest in trying this, and she threw a pack of basic cotton gloves into the bag of birthday presents.
It seems to be very helpful! My skin feels softer in the morning, and I barely had any skin peel off last week. (As opposed to before, when my fingers would routinely peel at the end of every workweek. A couple weeks ago when it was both starting-to-get-wintery and an extra-long workweek, I pretty much shed the entire top layer.)
---
At the grocery store, next to the barren expanse where the disinfectant wipes should have been, were big bottles of quaternary ammonium. That is to say, pretty much the same stuff that disinfectant wipes are soaked in.
And when I say big, I mean *massive*. *1.3 litres* of *65x concentrate*. That's 84.5 effective litres for a mere two and a half CAD! *And* there was plenty in stock!
We had a never-used spray bottle that Mom had vague gardening plans for, but she offered to re-allocate it to this. (Don't worry, I labelled it.) I put in two teaspoons of concentrate and filled the rest of the 650mL bottle with water, and voila!
There's something to be said for the convenience of a wipe dispenser when you can get them, but many wipe occasions can be replaced perfectly well with a paper towel heavily spritzed with sanitising solution.
Furthermore, not only is this pretty much the same stuff as disinfectant wipes, it's also pretty much the same stuff as the sanitiser we use at work. I'm already comfortable with its use, and now I can do [what I do when I'm bored at work] and wander around my house with a spray bottle and some paper towels, looking for grungy spots to wipe down.
