Nope, turns out this one's just a metaphor, not about a plague at all.
However, I'm impressed by how the song itself *sounds* sick (and not in the slang sense). That was what first made me decide to check if the illegible lyrics of the background radio were anything relevant to this post series: the way the instrumentals and especially the backing vocals sound like they *ought* to be attached to a song about disease. It's not *pleasant* listening (and I am a little baffled at how this made it to Top 40, but apparently it's Lady Gaga's new single so I guess it has reputation going for it), but it's remarkably evocative.
