I'm very glad the Region of Waterloo has started offering quarantine hotels to non-travellers (specifically those whose homes are too crowded to isolate within them), but couldn't they have made it sound *slightly* less like an organ-harvesting ring?

"Safe Voluntary Isolation Site" sounds like those jokes people make about the Democratic Republic of the Congo, about how the worse a place the Congo gets the more desperately-reassuring words they add to the name. Like, yeah, *I* would still go to the SVIS if I were sick and didn't have my own bedroom, but that is largely because I already have high trust in my municipal government.

If your house doesn't have two bathrooms it might still be beneficial for a household measure to go to the SVIS when sick? Otherwise you'd need to exchange air and possibly otherwise clean the bathroom a lot.

Yeah, I suppose they might let you in for that.

We do in fact have a mere single bathroom, and we do in fact worry about the transmission vector there. While I was waiting for my test result I wore a mask into the bathroom when possible (so, not when cleaning my teeth), cleaned the sink handles behind me, used a separate towel, and propped the door open when I left.

We once impressed some doctors by weathering a salmonella case† with zero intra-household transmission: apparently it's quite difficult to do that while sharing a bathroom.

I definitely want at least one more toilet: one is none, as I am reminded every time it clogs. Someday I would like to install another grid-connected toilet: as for the meantime (or if/when the water goes out), I try looking into alternative toilet arrangements every so often, but all I've found so far is stuff that takes [more spoons than someone with a flu-like illness would have] to operate and/or stuff that would break under Mom's weight. I wonder if we should just find one with only the second problem and try to work out a system where the grid toilet is always Mom's.

(They started vaccinating higher-priority essential workers here this week: restaurant workers are in the next category down from that, so at current rates Brother and I will likely be eligible for vaccination within a fortnight. That will almost certainly buy us some quantity of time before the next disaster in which to figure out a more resilient toilet solution.)

What an excellent program! And what a incredibly dubious-sounding name! It sounds like a place where you keep dissidents while you internally debate if they're worth killing! I didn't realize an entirely literal name could sound so bad!
