[cw: discourse] [Start of WordPress thread (Tumblr part 1; Tumblr part 2; Tumblr part 3; Tumblr part 4; Tumblr part 5; Tumblr part 6] (OP by titaniumelemental; also in response to hunterstheorem, nuclearspaceheater, nicdevera, and two probably-different anons) People are obsessed with tradeoffs between "quarantines to keep other people safe" and "socialising to keep yourself sane"; against my better judgement, I openly disagree with the altruism/selfishness framework and also with the quarantine/socialising binary; people on *both* sides of the quarantine-altruism/socialising-selfishness binary yell at me (not always in ways visible from your vantage point) over the course of a week (maybe longer, I don't know for sure if they're done). This thread has been incredibly stressful and I cannot honestly recommend reading it, but I include it for completeness. On the bright side, [the guide to respirators I hastily wrote up as part of demonstrating the lack of a quarantine/socialising binary] seems to have been genuinely appreciated by around four dozen people. *Something* good might still come out of this.
