Belated Friday Five: December 11, 2020

[mild cw: bugs, food, illness]

1. What is your favorite thing about the winter?

Bugs not getting in the way. In fact, just now my brother left some homemade cookie-crumb pie shells out to cool overnight, and nothing got into them.

(Breathable air is nice too in theory, but in practice I haven't made any use of it so far: I put my mask on before I leave and don't take it off until I'm standing over the bathroom sink I wash it in. It's actually been nice to have a "scarf" that doesn't fog up my glasses: all this time I've just been going without nose insulation.)

((It always makes me uncomfortable when people are like "can't wait for the pandemic to be over so we can go back to how things used to be". How things *used* to be? It's like, are y'all telling me you plan to learn *nothing* from this?

Masks, I've learned, are *even more useful* than I previously believed. Fuck going back: I'm going *forward*.))

2. What is your favorite winter sport?

I don't really do sports. Sledding's nice, I suppose.

3. What is the best winter treat?

Mint fudge! I also love walnut fudge--probably even more than mint fudge--but mint is winterier.

4. What is the earliest time in the year it ever snowed where you live?

Mid to late October.

5. What is the best way to stay warm in the winter?

Snuggling up under some blankets.
