Can we stop with this April Fools prank? Plague jokes are in very bad taste

[mild cw: illness]

I looked at the calendar in the hallway this morning. Apparently it's solstice today.

A lot of people have been saying that 2020 has been about nineteen years long so far, and I can kind of see where they're coming from, but mostly *I* feel like time ground to a halt somewhere around the end of March. Part of me is constantly surprised whenever I encounter a reminder that it's summer: the warmth outdoors, the breeze of an air conditioner, the daylight as I walk home from a dinner shift. Conversely, while I was intellectually surprised to see snowstorms in mid-May, that part of me nodded along: yes, it's barely April, snowstorms aren't out of place at this time of year.

The only comfort I can take here is that--as far as I can tell, anyway--it's not some Groundhog Day loop. 2020 was strangled in its cradle, but the things I accomplish during it will stay accomplished.

I'll go get back to doing that.
