No idea! I just know that they weren't "real" pokemon games. I was not very, like, finger-on-the-pulse as a child. Like, I'm bad at that now, but when I was a kid I was very out of it. I had no improvement of communication networks. I certainly thought they were the former, but I could not actually say they were not the latter - having identified them as fakes I ignored them.
