The comments on tomatoes are interesting. They grow pretty well here (midwest USA) but I haven’t noticed them being particularly better than store bought — though that may be because I have a strong preference for cooked-to-death tomatoes and by the time they’re paste the difference between store bought and home grown is probably minimal.

We have a fence which protects them okay. I’ve heard they grow pretty well in the Aerogarden but one of appropriate size is pretty pricey and the varieties for the aerogarden are going to be bred for size so I can’t say anything about taste.
